2009-2010 Union1 Service Unit Family Campaign

Welcome back Union1 Scouts. As we get ready for another fun filled scouting year, we are looking for creative ways to support our council's ongoing operations and efforts to raise funds for our new camp, Oak Springs. As everyone knows, a portion of our cookie sales and magazine sales go to council to fund activities. Sadly, those cookie and magazine dollars do not cover the entire operating budget. We look to local businesses, the United Way and our own scouting membership to help bridge the gap. The good news is that people continue to support and donate to scouting. The not so good news is that the United Way funding is less than it used to be.

Our district, along with all the other districts (now called Service Units) set goals and attempt to raise funds to support our council. Those dollars are used to support the programs that are in your FYI guide, materials, scholarships for Summer Camps & Destinations and for outreach programs for girls in need. Our goal is about $12 per registered girl/adult in our Union1 area, that's only three grande lattes at Starbucks. This year we will of course encourage all leaders and families to donate to the Family Campaign directly, in addition we are working with local businesses to provide fun activities that also provide a donation to Family Campaign. So be on the look out for more ice skating, roller skating, movie, food and other fun nights to support local scouting. Lastly, take a good look at the information on our golf outing in October. This is a really great way for us to earn a large amount of money with one event, so please identify those businesses you know that would sponsor the golf outing and these golfers that love to be out on the fairway. Lastly, volunteers to work on Family Campaign activities are greatly needed. Thanks for your support.

Golf Tournament to Benefit Family Campaign

The 6th Links for Leadership Girl Scout Golf Classic will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 at The Golf Club at Ballantyne in Charlotte. This is a unique golf tournament that will be a full day of exciting contests that may include Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt, Hole in One, Straightest Drive, Beat the Pro, Silent Auction, and many great prizes. An awards ceremony with lunch will follow the tournament. We are currently looking for tournament sponsors, golfers, and donations of a week at a rental property. All proceeds from this event will be applied to the Family Campaign goal for Union1 and Meck13 Service Units.

Tournament Sponsorships – Help Needed
Do you or someone you know have their own business or work for a community-minded organization? We need your help in securing sponsors for the golf tournament, from the $10,000 level down to the hole sponsorship for only $250. Hole sponsors will have their name on a sign at a tee, or they can provide their own banner and we’ll put the banner out on a hole. All sponsors will have their name on the back of the tournament t-shirt given to all volunteers and participants of the tournament. Click here for a complete listing of the various Sponsorship Levels.

If you know someone who might be interested in supporting Girl Scouts through a wonderful opportunity such as this, please contact Donna or Stephanie. We need to forward any potential sponsorship leads to Hornets’ Nest Council. We can then forward you or the potential sponsor a complete sponsorship packet with all the information.

Golfers Wanted
Do you or someone you know enjoy playing golf? Please pass this information on to your troop parents, family, friends, co-workers, and any golfers you know who might like to support Girl Scouts while getting a great day of golf, fun and prizes. Click for a Golfer Registration Form.

Donation of Rental Properties Needed
The Golf Tournament Committee is currently looking for donations of a week at a rental property or time-share to use as a prize for the tournament. Do you or someone you know own a rental property or a week at a time share that you would like to donate to the tournament? If so, please contact Jenna for more information.

All checks for Family Campaign should be made payble to GSHNC, not Union1.
