Career Fair– by Cathy, Co-Leader, Troop #177
Over the last 2 months,
Troop #177 has enjoyed the pleasure of hearing from 2 successful women about
their career of choice. Dr. Judy, pediatric dentist, joined us in
October, and Rana, RN, spoke with the girls in
November. Both women discussed various issues with our multi-age troop of
Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes, including:
educational requirements, typical days in their life, and what inspired them to
choose their career. We look forward to having other women share their
careers with the girls over the next few months. Our goal is to provide
opportunities of inspiration so that the girls know that anything is possible
in their future. Pictures can be seen
by going to “Photos” on the Union1 website.
Teens Helping Out – Water Conservation – by Cadette Troop #497
As
everyone knows there has been a drought and most cities are having major cut
backs with water. So teens, do you want to help out so you can help restore
some water back into the state? Also, adults can do this too. The more people
we get moving in helping there will be less shortage of water.
I know that almost every teen loves their own hour shower. But STOP, you still can have a shower
just limit them to about two or three songs on your IPOD or MP3 player you play
in your bathroom. I know this one may sound crazy but it helps - Don’t
shave in the shower. What you can do is shave in the sink. When you
girls shave either have some water in a container and then wash the soap but
DON’T leave the water on. Also don’t let water run if you aren’t using it. Also
to help don’t water your flowers as often. If your parents want the flowers
watered, take a bucket and put in the shower when you first turn it on and run until
it gets warm. There is your water for flowers and shrubs. Everyone likes
to look at them but they will be alright. I know that you have been hearing
these things a lot but trust me they work.
All you teens and adults out there
reading this please give a helping out. Even if it is just a little bit it
helps. Pass these ideas to a friend, parent, or even that one crazy family that
thinks that pigs can fly. Plus big bonus for the parents if you improve the
usage of your water then the water bill will be cut back and it will show.
