District
Meeting Recap
March 2008
Leaders: Lots of information at today's District meeting:
n Troop 2860 asked for donations of travel size toiletries for their Bronze Award project. This troop will be providing hand-made blankets, towels and toiletry items to low income parents who complete a training course for childcare basics/reading readiness offered by the Union County Health Department. The troop will be collecting items at our April and May District meetings. If you have questions, please contact Lisa.
n
Troop
263 is continuing to collect books for their Bronze Award project. Thanks
for those who already donated and to those who would like to contribute,
these girls will be at our
n
Jacqui,
a senior in troop 1000, is collecting books appropriate for high schoolers
as part of her Gold Project creating a book exchange for her High School.
Her leader, Darlene, will send out more info for you, but Jacqui will be at the
n Another Gold Award Project--this one from Bridget of troop 1019 (mine). Bridget is putting together a "fire safety" event for all age levels at both the Monroe Fire Department and the Hemby Bridge Fire Dept. These events are FREE, will help all age levels earn badges, and make a great "field trip" for a meeting night. Contact Gail for more info.
n Destinations Girls were selling there "wares" today and will be back again in April and May. You have a wide variety of items to choose from--pumpkin rolls, chocolate lollipops, cakes, fancy flip-flops, note cards, scrap booking items, tie-dye T-shirts, knitted kitchen items, polo shirts sweatshirts, hoodies and tote bags with a Union 1 logo (in various colors) and Carolina Girl Scouts T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies. Hope I didn't forget anyone! (If I did, I apologize--I was trying to remember all the tables that I went to and spent money!)
n The deadline for registering for Leader Retreat is this Friday, March 14th. If you want to go, please email Darlene. The Retreat is scheduled for April 18-20.
n The Skate night to benefit the Family Campaign raised $387.50 Thank you to everyone who was able to come out on that nasty, rainy night to enjoy the fun and raise FC funds.
n
Early
Bird packets were available at the meeting today--If you want to pick yours up
prior to our next District meeting, please contact
n
Sky
Adult Retreat--this is for all ADULT volunteers in Hornet's Nest Council.
It will be held Sept 19-21. Everyone always has a good time at SKY.
Register through the Council website
www.hngirlscouts.
n Scouting for the Cure is this Saturday, March 15th.
n Hard copy registrations for the Me & My Guy Dance (April 5th) and Union 1 Day Camp (week of June 16th) were also available today. This information was also sent to leaders by email. Please remember that Day Camp registrations cannot be postmarked before April 21st (or they will be held aside) and registrations need to be mailed individually--no mass drop off or mailing of registrations of girls in your troop will be accepted.
n It is with much pleasure that I announce your Co-District Managers (pending Council approval) for the 2008/09 Girl Scout year--Darlene and Sharon. Thank you to these ladies for stepping up!!
n Please remember to sign in when you go to Age-level roundtables. If you are not signing in you are probably not receiving your Daisy Dollars, but more importantly, you are not getting credit for attending our monthly meetings. We do have an award for perfect attendance for the year--This is given out at our May Leader Banquet.
n
Speaking
of Banquets--The Council hosts a Gala each year. This year it will be
held on April 21st beginning at
n On a sad note--Fanny, our Council membership specialist, has announced her resignation from Hornet's Nest Council to spend more time with her family. We will miss Fanny and wish her much success in her future endeavors.
n We have to postpone our Brownie camporee until October. It will be part of our District Camporee the weekend of October 17-19. However, there will be a Brownie Event hosted by girls from Troop 523 (their Silver project) in May that you will not want to miss if you are a Brownie/Brownie leader. We are also still working on an overnight in May for Juniors who missed the Camporee back in Nov. of 2007.
n
One
last comment--As you know we are going to be holding a dinner and auction on
the evening of May 3rd to benefit the Destinations Girls. If you can help
by donating items for the auction, please let us know. We are also asking that troops make up
"themed" baskets (an email with a flyer about this
went out a few days ago). Here's an idea that I'm going to do with my
troop: We are going to go shopping together instead of having one of our
regular meetings. The girls will choose our "theme" before we
go. They'll have a set amount to spend and we will fill out basket that
way. Baskets are due at our
Any questions, contact me.
Thanks.
